Personal life means I’m as busy as ever, but unusually website updates are continuing largely as planned. Here’s a quick summary on what I’ve been up to, and the future plans for the current portfolio of Radio In Malta and Scott’s Transport Site.
Linux Mint: Initial First Impressions
I’ve been daily driving Linux Mint on my new to me Dell Latitude laptop (see previous post) for a week now, so I though now was the right time to do a post on the chosen operating system. Drawing comparisons with Windows 10, which I’ve used extensively, and to a lesser extent Windows 11, Linux is favourable.
Welcome to the first in a new mini-series, imaginatively titled Scott’s Tech Blog. This will be occasional forays into my experimentation with technology. The first post is all about a new to me laptop purchase.
I’m being kind to the environment, by recently purchasing a new to me Dell Latitute E6410 laptop. My previous laptops (a HP bought new and another second hand Dell), are now at a point where they’re past there prime. Both are repairable (and may get repaired at some point), but with both having failed batteries and other components requiring replacement, they were just going to take too much time and money to justify repairs just now.
I’ve had my Kia Cee’d long enough to experience a few different tyre brands. Starting with Delinte’s at the front and Goodyear’s at the rear when I got the car, I’ve moved through to mix of Delinte’s and Yokohamas, all Delinte’s, and currently run Vredestien’s on the front with Delinte’s on the rear. Here’s a run down on what I think of them. All were of the same size (205/55R16) and all were normal summer rated tyres. As a disclaimer, speed and load ratings may vary between brands/tyres used, and some tyres were second hand (either on the car when I bought it a 6 years old, or on a second hand set of spare alloys purchased).

I’m not a huge fan of the term ‘infotainment’, which these days is used largely in connection to the massive in car displays that now feature in modern vehicles, which control everything from music, sat-nav, heating controls, and much more besides. I’m not a fan. They’re distracting, not tactile or easy to operate on the move, and they’re not even that nice to look at. That being said, ‘infotainment’ does describe rather accurately the double-din head unit that now resides in the dashboard of my Kia Cee’d.
I’m a few weeks behind with this one, but as promised, here are the reasons why I decided to close the All About Digital TV website. There are a number of factors, both personal and industry wide, that influenced the decision.
Website Update: May 2025
If you’ve visited Scott’s Websites before, you’ll have noticed the bold lime and light blue colour scheme has been replaced with something rather more subtle. With the decling number of websites that I offer, I’ve opted to host more content on the ‘main site’ here at the scottswebsites.co.uk domain name. As part of this, a little revamp is on it’s way.
I’ve Went Back to E5, Here’s Why
The Government made adjustments to the standard grade of unleaded petrol here in the UK, and introduced this change back in 2021. Principly, it revolves around the percentage of biofuel in the blend, which was previously 5% (known as E5), but this was increased to 10% biofuel in what is known as E10.
I’m a huge motorsport fan and have been for a long time, particular of British national series including the British GT Championship and the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). The latter has come under some scrutiny recently due to dwindling grid sizes from around 30 cars each season pre-Covid, to 20 cars for the 2024 season. Question is, is the reduced grid a good thing?
Review: Richard Hammond’s Workshop
I had started a blog post summarising some of the online car related content that I like to watch on a fairly regular basis. However, that turned out rather time consuming and a tad clunky, so I’ll save that for another time. In the meantime, thanks to reruns of Richard Hammond’s Workshop on both DMAX and Quest, I’ve been able to watch a large chunk of this series, so I’d thought I type out my thoughts.
